January 2011 Article

Cibolo Lodge held its first regular meeting of 2011 on Thursday, January 6th, at  Gg’s Corner Restaurant in Marion.  Please note that the February regular meeting, to be held on Thursday, February 3rd , will also be held at Gg’s and will feature German Sausage.  Please plan to attend this meeting and enjoy this very special dinner.  At the officer’s meeting, scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 30th, a permanent meeting place will be decided, so please watch this newsletter for advisement of the meeting place.

A brief overview of the Christmas Party and Scholarship Raffle was presented.  The Christmas Party, held in a new place, for the first time, was quite successful and enjoyed by all.  Thanks to Next Door Catering for the outstanding meal.  $1026 was raised in raffle sales to benefit the Scholarship Fund.

A welcome was extended to new junior members Grace and Griffin Matthys and Hunter and Emma DeLeon.  A thank you card was read from the Schertz Humane Society for our Matching Funds combined donation of $1500.  Our donation will be used for expenses for the Annual Doggie Dash, in May. The lodge will be named as a major contributor to the event.  Finally, congratulations were extended to Karen  Stacy Akins who will be awarded her 50 year pin in March and  was also our special prize drawing winner.  Sister Akins was not present to claim her prize, but it was quite amusing that she was honored, twice, in one meeting.

Cheer committee, Dorothy Schneider, had many things to report from her contacts throughout the months of November and December.  November birthdays were celebrated by octogenarians Catherine Cross (89), Frances Remmler (89), and Florence Noethlich (85).  December birthdays were celebrated by Lucille Riedel (87) and Wanda Koch (91).   Sister Schneider also sent notes of congratulations to 50 year pin recipients Larry Neill, Anita Fey, Robert Atkinson, Terri Lynn Abraham, Susan Goerke Fritz, Frederick Goerke and Janice Goerke Garza.   The lodge extended its sincerest condolences  to Sister Schneider and the Anthony Schneider family for the loss of their mother and grandmother, Hertha Braune, on December 9th.

There were 36 members and guests present.  It was wonderful to see Shanna Wiley and her daughter, Melody at our meeting.  Attendance prize winners were Jerry Rakowitz, Dena Warneke and Sarah.  The special drawing pot will be $37 at the February meeting.  This will be our annual Valentine meeting, so bring your sweetheart and join our meeting at Gg’s Corner Restaurant in Marion on Thursday, February 3rd.
