Cibolo Lodge 147 held its April meeting at Harmon’s Bar-B-Que when Hannah’s Steakhouse became unavailable. Thanks to the folks at Harmon’s for their help in this emergency situation and for the wonderful sausage they prepared for our meal.
We were thrilled to have Buddy Preuss, Vice President and agent Tina Ynfante as guests at our meeting. Buddy brought news from the Grand Lodge and introduced Tina as an agent available to our lodge. We are always pleased to have Grand Lodge visitors and thank Buddy for joining us.
Members unanimously accepted new adult member Melissa E. Gilmer and junior members John Terry, Jr., Madalynn Gilmer and Kaelea Gilmer.
In an overview of things to come, President John Gray reminded members that the Scholarship Raffle will again be held in December and to begin to solicit donations, now, since by December, most contribution budgets are exhausted.
Our Helping Hands project will be on May 14, 2011, to work with Schertz Homes for Pets at their annual Doggie Dash at Pickrell Park in Schertz. A sign-up sheet was made available. This event will allow volunteers of all age and capacity. Please plan to join us for this very worthwhile and extremely fun event.
Our Matching Funds Project will begin the regular meeting in May. The lodge will again sell popcorn and candy to raise funds for Universal City’s Homes for the Homes. They are currently raising funds for a Dog Park and our contribution will go towards that project. If you’d like to purchase some goodies or make a contribution to this activity, please contact any lodge member.
Scholarship applications were made available to qualified members and are due back, completed by the May regular meeting. If you need an application, contact Joy Brown or John Gray.
Thank you to Kathryn Schmoekel who has volunteered to chair our Flag Day Ceremony. The Annual Ceremony takes place on Flag Day, June 14 at Cibolo City Hall. This event has taken place for more that 10 years and is dedicated to the memory of Pat Osborne, a World War II veteran, who truly loved this annual ceremony.
Cheer committee, Dorothy Schneider, reported that she visited the New Braunfels Lodge, Kirby Lodge and Seguin Lodge. Sister Schneider still found time to visit members Evelyn Siggins and Wayne Wiggs. She also sent a sympathy card to the family of Lillian Hild who passed from this life on March 7th.
