January 2013 Article

Cibolo lodge welcomed the New Year with its first meeting of the year on Thursday, January 10th. Members celebrated at Harmon’s Bar-B-Que, enjoying their newly remodeled party room.

Members had several things to celebrate. At the Christmas Party, Mary Ann Gray was named Humanitarian of the Year. Sister Gray serves as the Guide for the lodge, is active in all the fundraising and community events and is a support of the youth and their even. She is a mother of five and a grandmother of many more! She never misses an opportunity to support her children and grandchildren in their endeavors while remaining active in her church and community.

Additionally, the lodge presented its Matching Funds proceeds to Universal City Veteran’s Park at the Christmas Party. This is the second opportunity the lodge has had to support the efforts of this committee. Pictured with President John Gray is Representative Jeff Jamison, accepting the checks on behalf of the Veteran’s Park Committee. Representing a strong military community, the lodge is proud to be able to support this worthwhile project.

During the business portion of the meeting, President Gray reported that $1020.00 was raised during this year’s scholarship raffle. These funds will be used to future scholarships to qualifying junior members. Applications are available, beginning in February, from Joy Brown, Secretary, or by contacting any lodge member.

Lodge members recognized a moment of silence for our departed brothers and sisters, Catherine Cross, Milton Burrow and Sophie Burdett. Donations to the scholarship fund will be made in their memory. Cheer committee, Dorothy Schneider, reported that condolence cards were sent to each of these families who will all be invited to attend the annual Memorial ceremony in August.

The lodge welcomed two new junior members; Ava Fritze and Alexa Fuentes. Attendance prizewinners were Tiffany Kuhlman, Shanna Wiley and Bret Gray. The special drawing winner was Ryan Joseph Vaughan, who was not present to claim his prize. The pot will be $37 at the February meeting. You must be present to claim this special prize.

We hope that you will join us on Thursday, February 2013 at 7:00 p.m. for the next regular meeting, where the lodge’s agents for the upcoming year will be discussed and approved. The meeting is held at Harmon’s Bar-B-Que, 100 S. Main St., Cibolo TX. See you then!
