August 2013 Article

The August Meeting is always the annual Memorial Ceremony, hosted by Vice-President, Sherry Rakowitz. Once again, we extend our thanks to Sherry for a moving ceremony and to Anthony and AJ Schneider who coordinate the audio visual portion of the program. This year’s ceremony honored Catherine M Cross, Sophie D Burdett, Milton F Burow, Viola E Niemietz, Irene Friesenhahn, Lucille Wohlfahrt and Wayne Wiggs. Our condolences are sent to the families of our dearly departed Brothers and Sisters.

The lodge was excited to welcome special guest, Grand President, Buddy Preuss. Brother Preuss gave a welcome to those attending and gave an overview of some new things the Fraternal Activities Committee will be involved in, of which our own Gail Gray, is a member. We look forward to the efforts of the committee and “getting members engaged”.

The lodge unanimously welcomed new junior members Selah Brewer, Kennadie Brown, Emma Kilpatrick, Alexi Banks, Addisyn Rushlow, McKayla Buitron, Melanie Buitron, Holden Hughes, Lilly Ann Mauldin and William Mauldin.

Members are reminded to bring their donations of personal care items for the “Make a Difference Day” project. Also, President Gray asks everyone to start securing the prizes for the Scholarship Raffle.

Congratulations to Nell and Cliff Shepherd celebrating their 53rd anniversary in August! Also celebrating an anniversary, their 9th, are Scott and Darla Stevens. Also celebrating is Cheyanne Kuhlman who turns five this month and is anxious to start kindergarten! Attendance prize winners were Arnold Katzer, Anthony Schneider, and Zane Gray. Gail Gray was the winner of the Special Prize Drawing pot of $52. You must be present to win this drawing! September’s pot starts all over with $25.

Our next regular meeting is Thursday, September 5th at Harmon’s Bar-B-Que. We hope that you will attend. Planning for the Christmas Party begins next month. It’s always a fun event and one of the highlights of our year! Please watch this newsletter for ticket information.
