Cibolo Lodge held its regular meeting on Thursday, September 5th at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Universal City. September was Homemade Pie Contest month. Congratulations to Fay Fey whose Blueberry Pie was the $1 Grand Prize Winner! Cliff Shepherd was also a $1 prize winner for his beans. Thanks to all those who participated in this contest.
Cheer committee, Dorothy Schneider, reported the passing of Sister Edna Rowell, Cibolo Lodge’s oldest member. A contribution will be made to the Scholarship Fund in her memory.
President Rakowitz read a reminder from the Grand Lodge that September is the time to nominate the Humanitarian of the Year. Nominees will be voted on during the October meeting. Other correspondence from the Grand Lodge introduced “The Tribe”, a leadership event for our young (16-20 yr old) members. The event will take place on Saturday, October 18th. Any member interested in this even can find more information on the Hermann Sons website or “The Tribe” on Facebook. Free tickets are available from lodge officers.
Bret Gray and Zane Gray gave a review of their time at camp. Bret was a camper and Zane was a CIT II. Bret and his friends agreed that camp food was “breathtaking” and Zane has presented his application to be a junior counselor, next year. Thank you to both these young men for their insights on their camp experience.
Christmas Party tickets will be available, starting at the November meeting. The party is Sunday, December 7th at 4 p.m. It will be held at Schertz Community Center, Building 5. Please contact any lodge officer if you are interested in attending this much anticipated event.
The Matching Funds Rummage Sale will be held on Saturday, September 20. Members will meet at 6 a.m. to prepare for the sale that will be held from 8 to 2 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Rd., Universal City. All proceeds will benefit the Lower Valley Schoolhouse Restoration Project.
Birthdays were celebrated by Zane Gray and Cory Rakowitz. John and Gail Gray celebrate their Anniversary in September. Attendance prize winners were Bret Gray, John Gray and Sherry Rakowitz. The Special Drawing Prize Winner was Virgil Zigmond, who was not present to claim his prize. The pot will be $28 at the October meeting. Remember, October is the Annual Costume Contest with divisions for Juniors and Adults. See you then!
