June 14 was Flag Day and was proudly honored at Cibolo City Hall. Hermann Sons Lodge members, Cibolo Mayor and city staff were in attendance.

Attendance award winners for this month’s meeting were Emilie Shepherd, Jonny Brown, and junior member Brenley20160707_201635 Bierstedt. Rebekah Cowan’s name was drawn for the special drawing; but, she was not present so the prize increases to $37 next month. Remember, you must be present to win the special drawing. The prize for best side dish went to Dorothy Schneider for her cucumber salad and Nell Shepherd’s oatmeal raisin cookies won for best dessert.

This month’s birthdays include Cliff Shepherd, Tracy Campos, Jerry Rakowitz, Maezey Bierstedt and Sherry Rakowitz. Happy birthday to all of you! Also, congratulations goes to John and Fay Fey who are celebrating their 57th wedding Anniversary this month.

The 41st annual Schertz Jubilee and Fourth of July 20160707_200117parade was tons of fun this year. Dance team members, and several lodge members rode on the award winning Hermann Sons float. A special thank you goes to Brenley Bierstedt and the dance team. Brenley proudly displayed the “First Place Non-Profit” trophy the dance team earned at the Schertz 4th of July parade.

Bowlers get ready! July 30-31 and August 6-7, Dart Bowl in Austin will be hosting a state wide bowling tournament. Also, on August 6, Oak Hills Country Club will be holding a Bowl-A-Thon from 3:00-6:00PM to raise money for scholarships. Sign up sheets are available.

A few more upcoming events to remember: Beginning in August we will start collecting personal care items for the nursing homes in the area. Especially needed is blankets and scarves, but please no candles. We are also still accepting items for our September 17 rummage sale. Proceeds will benefit our matching funds recipient, the Cibolo Volunteer Fire Department.
