Extra news from Cibolo Lodge which held its regular meeting on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Christ the King Lutheran Church as well as the Flag Day Ceremony on June 14th at Cibolo City Hall.
First Flag Day was a beautiful event. We had several guest speakers to help us honor our beautiful flag.
The ceremony began with President Gray welcoming everyone for attending and introduced City Manager Robert Herrera and we again thank him and City Secretary Peggy Cimics for hosting the Flag Day ceremony. They did an outstanding job and all of the flags that were posted around City Hall are so inspiring.
Pastor David Guyon from the Country Church started us off with an opening prayer followed by Leslie Swank who sang the National Anthem for us so beautifully. Junior members Javion and Michael Campos read what the flag stand for. Then everyone joined in to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. County Commissioner Jim Wolverton shared the Flag Day History, followed by City Manager Robert Herrera with the history of the Star Spangled Banner. Joy Brown honored our veterans and service members and President Gray closed the ceremony. It was a very moving ceremony to many of the attendees and not many dry eyes left at the end. Refreshments were served after the ceremony with over 50 people in attendance.
At our regular meeting we welcomed new junior members Hannah Ashbrook Stock, Brycen Steven Warneke and Breilyn Gail Warneke.
Congratulations to Sherry Rakowitz for being appointed to the Community EngagementCommittee at the Home Office.
Our rummage sale is set and will be held in the parking lot on September 16 here at Christ the King Lutheran Church beginning at 8 am so mark your calendar and come out and help us support the Clemens 4H. We are accepting items up to the sale day so contact any member or bring it to us on the day of the event by 7 am.

As a reminder Guest speaker Hans Boas, professor for Germanic Linguistics in the Department of Germanic Studies and the Department of Linguistics at the University of at Austin is scheduled to speak at our October 5, 2017 meeting. Everyone is invited to come and listen and ask questions especially those of you that speak native German or know of anyone that still does. Hans is documenting and recording native German so the language is not lost.
