Summer greetings from Cibolo Lodge. We held our August meeting and had as our guest Cynthia Lopez, Director of Development at St Jude Ranch for Children, our Matching Funds Recipient for this year. For those of us that were not familiar with SJRC, Cindy explained that they are the ones that care for children in the Foster Care System that have been removed from their homes by the Department of Family and Protective Services. SJRC cares for the children placed with them from newborns until adulthood. The children they care for daily are from of some of the most horrific cases seen on the news. They provide care for these children 24/7/365. They care for them, feed them, clothe them, take them to and from school, help with home work, help them with extra curricular activities, nurture them and above all else help them to heal from any trauma they have experienced. They strive for the children to have as happy a childhood as possible and provide them with as much normalcy as possible. They have three campus locations, New Braunfels, San Antonio and Bulverde. In San Antonio they have a Child Placement Agency for families willing to foster any of these children or adopting any of the children. They only receive 50% of support from the state, while providing 100% care for the children and they have approximately 100 children in their care at this time.
In addition to being our matching funds recipient they will be assisting at our rummage sale on September 15 in the parking lot of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Universal City. Anyone wanting more information or tours of their facilities are always welcome and donations will also be accepted at this time. For more information please visit their website www.sjrctexas.org and join us in helping this awesome organization. For those of you unable to attend please go to their website and donate to this awesomely worthy cause!
