January 2019 Article

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to the New Year 2019 from Cibolo Lodge # 147! We had our regular meeting on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Universal City.

Installation of all officers present was our first order of business then President Gray began the meeting.

We celebrated the new year with our first meal of tamales, chili, corn bread, rice, carrot salad, cucumbers and more. So yummy! For dessert we had pear pie, cookies and cheesecake to name just a few. Sherry Rakowitz won both the side dish with her chili and dessert with her strawberry cheesecake, double delicious.

We read and accepted the minutes from the regular November meeting and the Treasurers reports from November and December were read and accepted.

We had 19 adult members present, one junior member and two guests who all shared in celebrating the new year with us. We will be having an officers meeting on January 27th to finalize the menu for 2019. New junior members voted in are Keegan Thomas Real and Sutton Hunter Richardson. Transfers members welcomed are Kayla Eileeen Gomke, Idela Mae Craddock and Rhea Lynn Craddock whom all transferred from Kirby Lodge.

We received a thank you from our Matching Funds recipient St. Jude Ranch for Children (SJRC), thanking us for our monetary donation which helps them help the children entrusted to their care. The children sometimes come in the middle of the night with nothing except the clothes on their back or the diaper on their bottom so the monies really help them.

The Christmas Party was a success and we have plans to make it better next year. The 50/50 drawing raised over $400, so over $200 went to the Scholarship fund. We have the date set for this years party on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Bexar Social Hall and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be back. We hope to see many of you this year in December.

Happy Birthday wishes for January go to our beautiful ladies, Joy Brown and Mary Ann Gray.

Our adult attendance winners were Cliff Shepherd and John Fey the junior winner was Bret Gray. Special drawing was #466 Valerie Carroll who was not present so the prize amount grows to $40

December 2018 Article

Happy Holidays from Cibolo Lodge! We had our annual Christmas Party on Saturday, December 8th at Bexar Social Club. The dance classes were invited to share in the festivities and we were rewarded with a dance recital with the dancers showing everyone what they have learned so far. After all of their hard work, they were rewarded with drinks and snacks so they would have enough energy to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas!

President John Gray welcomed the Home Office Board Member, Mike Beam who helped us in our celebration. They presented the junior members with their cash attendance awards for the year.

We sponsored a toy drive and Board Member Mike Beam along with President Gray, presented the toys collected to Sondra and Yomi Ajasin with TruLight127 Ministries.

Did you just hear bells? The children listened intently and guess who showed up? You guessed correctly, Santa and Mrs. Claus to the delight of all the children. Everyone lined up and told Santa what they wanted for Christmas and received their gifts from Santa and then took pictures. After all the children received their gifts, they thanked Santa and Mrs. Claus for coming and gave them a group hug.

President Gray and Board Member Beam then presented Nevetta King from St Jude Ranch for Children (SJRC) with two checks totaling $1080.00 as our matching funds recipient for this year. Our rummage sale in September raised $580 despite all the rain. The Home Office matches up to $500 and we are so proud to raise monies for such a worthy cause.

We then enjoyed music provided by Leslie Swank and Robbie Vee. They are such talented people, we hope to bring them back next year.

Each year we hold a 50/50 raffle, where 50% of money raised goes to our scholarship fund and the other 50% is awarded to the winning raffle ticket holder. This year we raised over $400 with half of that going to our lucky raffle winner. For those that didn’t win the 50/50 drawing, we drew tickets for other raffle prizes. This year’s prizes included a woman’s mystery prize bag, hot chocolate variety with mugs and purses to name a few. Door prizes this year were poinsettias and mini Christmas trees.

We ended the evening with music and dancing.

November 2018 Article

Happy Fall Y’all! Don’t you just love the cooler weather and the rain was much needed. I don’t know about everyone else but I really love the cool weather, time to cook stews and soups and bake! By far baking for me is the best in cool weather, I just love it!

We at Cibolo Lodge held our annual November meeting on the 1st at 7pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Universal City. We had a delicious ham dinner with the most amazing sides and deserts! The pinto beans were voted the best side dish followed by the deviled eggs and the desert voted as number one was the chocolate snowflake (crinkle) cookies followed by the strudel. Cliff and Kasey Shepherd were the Chef’s of the day with their delicious beans and yours truly was the cookie queen that night. Sorry Sherry and Cory, we love you and all of your delicious foods! This is an inside joke, so to find out what it’s all about come to one of our meetings and we will gladly explain!

October 2018 Article

Dressed up to trick or treat they came into the building. It was a typical early October evening in Texas with the temperatures in the 80’s and humidity at nearly 100%. They came in various shapes and sizes. Cats wearing pumpkin shirts, pink unicorns, world renown soccer players, US Olympic qualifying volleyball players and even Mal from the Descendants came. Then more arrived, world renown painter Bob Ross and his happy little tree came, a German Halloween lady stopped by to see what was going on. Then the Crazy cat lady entered followed by the hunter and his trophy. WHAT IS GOING ON!!!! Oh its the regular October meeting for Cibolo lodge and its our spooktakular costume contest meeting. Phewww I was kinda worried for a minute there!

Nifty things to report in that our rummage sale, that we had to move to September 22, was a success despite the weather. We raised $600 for SJRC (St Jude Ranch for Children) who is our matching funds recipient this year. Several members from SJRC came out and assisted us and were fantastic with sorting out the clothes and displaying the items up for sale. We really could not have done as well as we did without them. Thank you all for helping!

It will be lots of fun for the residents as well as for us members that attend.
